November 4, 2014 | Fountain and Walk Improvements: Next Step

Friends and neighbors: Our next improvement project is set for this Saturday, Nov. 8, beginning at about 9:30 a.m. We’ll meet at the usual spot just off The Circle at Los Angeles.

terra-cotta-potThere are two parts to the project:

IvyGeranium_Dudlyea_l_s_42921) Replanting the large terra cotta pots mounted atop the balustrade columns (seen at right) around The Circle. We’ll replace
the aloe plants with more colorful Ivy Geranium and Dudleya (the plants seen at left). This is a tougher task than it might seem, given the size and locations of the planters, so it will take some elbow grease to do.

2)  Clearing out the overgrown ivy and agave plants in the small Agave_Ivy_s_4290triangular area just to the right of the Fountain Walk staircase (at Sutter and Del Norte, shown at right) and replanting it with drought-tolerant hummingbird sage (shown below, left). Again, this will require a bit of muscle to accomplish.

HummingbirdSage_s_4295We’ll be getting help from some Cal students taking part in an annual community service day, but welcome other volunteers as well. We’ll provide the necessary tools, work gloves, water and lunch. Help us make the Fountain and Walk look even better as we approach holiday decorating time. Thanks!
